TRAVELLING ALONG THE CARRETERA AUSTRAL

In April, some of our travelArtists set off on the famous Carretera Austral, one of the most spectacular roads in South America, which is over 1200 kilometres long and crosses the south of Chile, passing breathtaking landscapes along the way.
They travelled the route of the northern Carretera Austral from Puerto Montt to Balmaceda. It consists of roads with little traffic, surrounded by unspoilt nature and leads past some of Chile’s national parks.

Queulat NP

A particularly recommended highlight along the way is a visit to the hanging glacier Ventisquero Colgante in Queulat National Park. The glacier can be reached via several hiking trails that lead through lush forests and along rivers.

The best-known trail is the Sendero Ventisquero Colgante, a 6 km long path that leads through the forest to the ‘Mirador Ventisquero Colgante’ viewpoint. From here you have a breathtaking view of the glacier and the waterfall.

Alercen Pumalin NP

In the Pumalín National Park (near Caleta Gonzalo), our colleagues marvelled at the impressive Alerce trees, which are among the oldest and tallest trees in the world. These majestic trees can live for over 3,000 years and reach heights of up to 70 metres.

In addition to exploring the various sights along the route and the connections with the ferries, our team also visited several of the hotels we offered and stayed at the following hotels:
