Patagonia and the southern Carretera Austral are ideal destinations for travellers seeking to experience Chile’s spectacular and largely untouched natural landscapes. One of the most rewarding ways to explore this remote region is on a self-drive journey along the legendary Carretera Austral.

travelArt has designed an itinerary taking you by rental car from Coyhaique to Puerto Guadal, a small village on the western shore of Lake General Carrera, before returning to Coyhaique. Along the way, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy hiking and other outdoor activities amid some of Patagonia’s most impressive scenery.




The route takes you past Cerro Castillo National Park and continues alongside the striking turquoise waters of Lake General Carrera, offering magnificent views of mountains, forests and vast Patagonian landscapes.

One of the highlights of the journey is a visit to the famous Capillas de Mármol (Marble Chapels), whose spectacular rock formations rise from the waters of Lake General Carrera and provide a memorable finale to this scenic adventure.
