- Tour Description
Have you ever heard of accessories made from horsehair? Tourists can now learn about this centuries-old handcraft tradition particular to Chile’s Central Region, in a new hands-on half-day tour. A great option for those with limited time in Santiago, this excursion takes visitors to the small workshop, located conveniently in the centre of the Providencia district. This year, the workshop owner Hila Díaz has been recognised by both UNESCO and the Chilean government for her work carrying on the old traditions of using died horsehair (“Crin”) to create accessories and jewellery. Visitors to the workshop receive an introduction to the techniques that have been passed down through the generations, and afterwards can give it a go themselves, with the opportunity to fashion their own “Crin” souvenir to take home.
