A highlight of the trip was the highly recommended Chiloé boat ride (departing from Quemchi) and Curanto tasting in a floating restaurant, which we reported on in detail in our last newsletter. Another tour we we would like to recommend is the cooking experience of Inal Lewfü on the banks of the river Maullín, about a 25 minute drive from Puerto Varas. The excursion is suitable for small groups and provides a great opportunity for visitors to help prepare a meal, allowing them a much more personal taste of Chilean cuisine. If you want to learn more about the history of German immigrants in the Lake District, we recommend a visit to the Rancho del Espantapajaros restaurant near Puerto Octay, where you can taste German-Chilean dishes and talk to the great-grandchildren of the immigrant generation.
