The trip began with a city tour through the historic center of La Serena, a city that captivates with its colonial architecture, golden beaches, and the iconic Faro Monumental, a lighthouse that stands as a symbol of the city. The experience continued with a panoramic tour of Coquimbo, a charming coastal town known for its picturesque bay and rich maritime heritage.

Our colleague Sole joined a unique tour combining astronomy, wellness, and wine at Viñedos de Alcohuaz — one of Chile’s few mountain wineries. Nestled in the Andes, 600 km north of Santiago, it ranks among the World’s Best Vineyards (#25 in 2023).

Located between 1,650 and 2,206 meters above sea level, it features some of the highest vineyards in Chile. The tour also included a stop at the winery’s energy pyramid – a peaceful place to recharge – and concluded with a tasting of four high-altitude wines, accompanied by breathtaking views over the valley.

One highlight was Hotel Solar Madariaga, a beautifully restored 140-year-old heritage property located in the heart of Vicuña. This boutique hotel offers a unique and charming stay in the center of Chile’s Elqui Valley.

Hotel terra diaguita

One night was spent at Hotel Boutique Terra Diaguita & Spa, just 100 meters from La Serena’s main square. This warm, colorfully decorated hotel features a tranquil garden and artwork inspired by the ancient Diaguita culture.

Hotel aldea del valle

Another night was spent at Aldea del Valle – Elqui Villas, located in the center of Pisco Elqui, 39 km from Vicuña. Some of the villas feature private pools, and all offer breathtaking views, spacious layouts, and a simple yet elegant design that invites complete relaxation and a deep connection with the valley’s natural energy.

Cavas del valle
As part of their exploration, the group also visited the vineyard Cavas del Valle, where they discovered the unique character of wines produced under the valley’s intense sunlight and pure skies — a true highlight for wine lovers.

Altogether, Sole’s journey revealed that Chile’s Small North offers an unparalleled blend of wellness, culture, and celestial wonder.
