Known as the “City of Eternal Spring,” Arica is a lively coastal city on the Pacific Ocean, celebrated for its rich cultural heritage and diverse attractions. Overlooking the city, the iconic El Morro rock, rising 130 meters above sea level, forms a striking backdrop for northern Chile’s largest multicultural summer celebration.
The Andean Carnival “Con la Fuerza del Sol” (Inti Ch’amampi) has been an annual highlight since 2002, celebrated over three days in January or February. This colorful festival attracts over 16,000 dancers and musicians from across Chile and beyond, making it one of South America’s most significant carnival events.
The festivities showcase the diverse cultural roots of the region, with performances by Andean dance troupes presenting traditional dances of the Altiplano, Afro-descendant communities, and the Arica and Parinacota regions.
