Between October and March the Chilean penguin colonies gets very lively, as this is when the animals come on land to have their young.<\/p>\n<p>The most accessible penguin colony in Chile is the one at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chile-reise.com\/en\/packages-daytrips\/patagonien\/otway-pinguin-kolonie\/\" target=\"_blank\">Otway Sound<\/a> near Punta Arenas. Well-marked footpaths and discrete observation platforms enable visitors to observe the sociable penguins in their natural habitat without distressing them. There is a 2km\/1mi footpath that will take you right into the heart of the colony. The other tourism-developed penguin colonies are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chile-reise.com\/en\/packages-daytrips\/patagonien\/pinguininsel-magdalena\/\" title=\"Pinguininsel Magdalena\" target=\"_blank\">Isla Magdalena <\/a>in the Beagle Channel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chile-reise.com\/en\/packages-daytrips\/seengebiet\/ancud-und-die-pinguinkolonie-punihuil\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pu\u00f1ihuil<\/a> off Chilo\u00e9, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chile-reise.com\/en\/packages-daytrips\/kleiner-norden\/isla-damas\/\" target=\"_blank\">Isla Damas <\/a>near La Serena, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/chile.travel\/en\/donde-ir\/atacama-desert\/copiapo\/pan-de-azucar-national-park\/\">Pan de Azucar National Park<\/a>.
