The festival was created over 40 years ago, inspired by the former spring festivals (\u201cfiestas de la primavera\u201d) of mainland Chile. Two candidates compete for this prestigious title, supported by their families, friends, and visitors. Each candidate\u2019s supporters form an alliance, facing off in a series of challenges and contests that echo the rivalries between the ancient clans who once governed the island.
