Expediciones Fitz Roy – On the Trail of the Whale

Experience the fascinating sea life of far-southern Chile! The wild fjords of Patagonia are home to a great variety of impressive species, and with a bit of luck they can be seen up close. The star among the sea-dwellers is certainly the humpback whale, but elephant seals, dolphins, and penguins, as well as birds like petrels, great albatrosses and cormorants can also be observed.
The ship M/N Forrest takes you on an excursion into the Francisco Colane Marine Protection Area located south-west of Punta Arenas. The shared 3-day tours start at Seno Otway and lead south into a branch of the Strait of Magellan, where you can experience not only the fascinating wildlife but also the imposing Santa Inés Glacier. Several landings familiarize the passengers with the local flora.

The M/N Forrest was built in England in 1968 and was converted into a passenger ship after serving as a transport vessel in the Falklands for almost 40 years. With a capacity of 12 passengers it does not offer the on-board comforts of a large cruise ship, but does guarantee a pleasant stay with personal service.

Tonight you will anchor in the “Condor Estuary,” where you will take a walk on land before dinner.

Day 3 – Brazo Nuñez – Bahía Delfines – Punta Arenas
At the start of the day, the ship will cruise toward Nuñez Estuary, where you will take a zodiac tour of “Dolphin Bay” and go ashore for a hike through the lush Canelo forest. Back on board, you will take a short cruise before disembarking again to explore a hidden lagoon amidst the green wilderness.
