The Reserva Nacional Llanquihue, a nature reserve located at the foot of the Calbuco Volcano in southern Chile, will unfortunately remain closed during the upcoming season. The park was closed due to security issues after the Calbuco Volcano erupted in 2015. Rangers from the national forest authority “CONAF” have explored the park in order to evaluate a possible reopening. The result of this expedition was not as desired: due to ongoing ice melting caused by the ash rain, the park landscape is continuously changing, making it unsafe for tourists. Furthermore, the trail leading to the park and the volcano was buried by the eruption and cannot be restored at the moment due to the ongoing natural changes.
We offer many alternatives for guests who love hiking, including for example a beautiful full day excursion to the Alerce Andino National Park. Please ask your travelArt sales partner for more details.
